Q1 Determine the dimensions of a
T shaped retaining wall for a height of 6m above the ground level. It retains
earth weighing 18KN/cubic m and having an angle of repose of 29 degree. The
surface of earth is horizontal but carries a surcharge of 10KN/sq m. The safe
bearing capacity of soil is 100KN/sq m and coefficient of friction is 0.45
Q.2 Design a T shaped retaining
wall for a height of 5.5 m above the ground level. It retains the earth which
weighs 16KN/cubic m and has angle of repose 30degree. Maximum pressure on
ground is limited to 120KN/sq m
Q.3 Design the vertical stem of a
T shaped retaining wall for a height of 5m above the ground level. Its base is 1.5m
below ground level. The top of earth retained is surcharged at 15degree. The
earth retained weighs 16KN/cubic m and has angle of repose 37degree. Maximum
pressure on ground is limited to 170KN/Sq m
