Prestressed Concrete: CVL013 Assignment II

ASSIGNMENT II

NOTE:

  • Viva will be taken during the submission of the assignment. So please study thoroughly while making/copying it.
  • Submit the assignment until 15 Jul'13.

Q1. State the different assumptions in Limit State Analysis of Prestressed Concrete as per Clause 22.1.1 of IS1343:1980.

Q2. Derive W (Load) with the help of Load Balancing Method for the following profiles of cables:
  1. Parabolic
  2. Sharp Change/ Single Harp
  3. Double Harp
Q3. Derive the different conditions for the Design of Prestressed Concrete of a rectangular section (bXd). (Ch-12, N.K. Raju)

Q4. A prestressed road bridge of span 10m consists of a concrete slab 380mm thick with parallel post-tensioned cables, in each of which the force at transfer is 360kN. If the bridge is required to support an udl of 25 kN/m2, with the tensile stress in the concrete not exceeding 0.7 N/mm2 at anu time, calculate the max. horizontal spacing of the cables, their distance from the soffit of the slab at mid-span & lowest possible position at the supports. Assume 20% loss of prestress after the transfer.
